2 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
2 eggs
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 c. hot water
1 c. buttermilk or sour milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together flour soda and salt. Cream shortening, add brown sugar. Cream until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time. Beat well after each. Mix cocoa and hot water to paste consistency. Add to creamed mixture. Add milk and vanilla, alternately with dry ingredients. Bake at 350 for 30 min.
