Ingredients: 2c. flour 1/3c sugar 2 tsp. baking powder 1/8 tsp salt 1/3c butter 1 large egg 1 tsp vanilla 1/2c. 1/2 and 1/2 cream
Optional ingredients: 1/2c cranberries and 1/2c. white choc. chips or 2 tsp. grated lemon/orange peel and 1 tbsp. poppy seeds or 1/2c any type berries (cherries, strawberries, blueberries,etc.) and 1 tsp. extract (almond or orange)

Directions:Preheat oven to 375 degrees. 1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt (dry ingredients) 2. Cut butter into small pieces and blend into dry ingredients until it looks coarse and crumbly. 3. In a small bowl, mix/whip egg, vanilla, half and half cream. 4. Add this wet mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until combined. DO NOT over mix. **add any optional ingredients. 5. Knead dough gently then roll or pat dough into a 7 inch circle about 1 1/2 inch thick. 6. In a cup, mix egg and half and half cream then brush the scones with this mixture. 7. Bake for 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Transfer to wire rack. They freeze well too! |

Notes: My Scottish Grandma use to serve these at tea when I was a little girl. I have passed this on to my girls. They are a signature tea party snack!
