ham bone
onion, chopped
salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Wash and sort beans, soak over night. Put in large soup kettle and fill with the water the beans were soaked in. Add the ham bone, chopped onions, and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer all day or until beans are tender.

"This is my mother's recipe (Reda McElmury) as I remember it. We always had homemade cornbread with the bean soup. We always had this meal on Mondays, because it was wash day."
