Dumplings:
2 1/2 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup milk
3/4 teaspoon salt

Syrup:
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

8 apples, sliced

Directions:
Directions:
Mix the dough together like a pie crust. Divide it into 8 pieces and roll out. Fill with sliced apples. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Fold to make dumplings. Place in a pan. Slit the tops of each dumpling. Prepare the syrup and boil for 5 minutes. Then pour the hot syrup over the apple dumplings. Bake for 10 minutes at 425, then reduce heat to 375 and bake for 35 minutes more. Serve with ice cream.
