4 cups canned pork and beans (I like B&M Original Baked Beans)

1 cups tomato-based barbecue sauce

1 cup chopped smoked meat (such as sausage, chicken, pork butt, brisket) or more to taste

cup packed brown sugar

cup diced onion

cup Ketchup

1 tablespoons prepared mustard

Kosher salt

Coarsely ground black pepper

Directions:
Directions:
Prepare a fire in your smoker or barbecue.
In a disposable aluminum pan, combine pork and beans, barbecue sauce, meat, brown sugar, onion, ketchup and mustard. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Place pan on smoker/barbecue, add wood for smoking. Smoke at 225̊ to 250̊ for 2 hours or until bubbling and fragrant with smoke.

This is a recipe from the Championship BBQ Secrets for Real Smoked Food cookbook by Karen Putman. It is designed for a real smoker, but you can use a barbecue if you have a smoker tray. Use hickory or your favorite wood to add the smoke flavor.

The meat preference is smoked meat that you have saved from a previous smoke meal. But, you could use barbecued chicken, chopped for the meat addition. These beans are really good!
