sift together:
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 cup cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
add 8 tablespoons soft shortening
After sifting above ingredients, add 2 beaten eggs. Bake 25-30 minutes in a 9x13 cake pan at 350 degrees.

BUTTER FROSTING:
1/2 cup butter, softened
4 1/2 cups sifted powered sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
milk

Beat butter until fluffy. Gradually add 2 cups of the powdered sugar, beating well. Slowly beat in the 1/4 cup milk and vanilla. Slowly beat in remaining sugar. Beat in additional milk, if needed, to make of spreading consistency.

Chocolate butter frosting: Prepare as above, except beat 1/2 unsweetened cocoa powder into the butter.
