2 cups butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 1/2 cups flour, sifted

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the butter and sugar. Blend in the egg and vanilla, mix well. Gradually add in the flour. Make into a ball, cover and refrigerate for two hours. Roll 1/4 - 1/2 of the dough out at at time 1/8 inch thick. Cut out with shapes with festive cookie cutters. bake on a sprayed cookie sheet at 375 for 7-10 minutes. Decorate right out of the oven with colored sugars or icing.
