3 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 2/4cups milk
1/4 cup melted butter

Directions:
Directions:
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender or fork until crumbly. Gradually add milk, stirring just until the dry ingredients are moistened. The dough will be sticky. On a floured surface, roll the dough to 1/2 inch thickness with a floured rolling pin (or pat with your hands). Cut with a 2 1/2 inch cutter. Place biscuits on a pan and brush with half of the melted butter. Bake at 450 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes or until lightly browned. Brush with remaining melted butter.
