2/3 c. butter at room temperature
2/3 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
2 1/4 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Combine butter and sugar. Beat with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla, beating until blended. Beat in salt. Gradually add flour, beating until well blended.

Place half of dough between two sheets of waxed paper and roll until about 3/8" thick. Place on baking sheet or tray and refrigerate until firm. Repeat with remaining dough.

Heat oven to 350. Lightly grease baking sheets. Take dough from refrigerator, cut out cookies and place on baking sheets. Re-roll scraps and chill. Repeat cutting cookies until all dough has been used.

Bake 8-10 minutes until just beginning to brown lightly. Let cookies set for 2 minutes then remove from baking sheet and cool completely.

Decorate as desired.

*To make chocolate cookies, add 1/2 c. unsweetened cocoa powder.
