1 c sugar
2 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
1/2 c nuts
1 c diced dates
1 c boiling water
1 tsp baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over dates and soda. Mix and sift dry ingredients. Add nuts and then date mixture. Add beaten egg and vanilla. Bake in 350 for 1 hour.

This was always a special treat at Christmas and as we got older Mom would bake us each our own loaf to take home. Mom got the recipe from Aunt Lena.
