1/1/4 cup boiling water
1 cup quick oats
1/2 cup butter ( 1/4 of lb.)
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 t nutmeg
1/2 t salt
1 t vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 t soda

Coating:
2/3 cup brown sugar
6 T butter
1/4 cup cream or 1/2 and 1/2
1 cup coconut
1 cup chopped nuts
1 t vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over oats and let stand 2 minutes. Cream butter; add white sugar, brown sugar, and eggs. Cream well. Combine all dry ingredients and sift. Add oats and gradually add dry ingredients and vanilla. Spread in a greased and floured cake pan. Bake 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Make coating and spread on cake while still hot. Put under broiler until light golden brown (a minute or two).
