rain water, Lewis Lye, 20 Mule Team Borax, Ammonia, grease

Directions:
Directions:
5 cups of rain water if you have it, otherwise tap water. 1 can of Lewis Lye, dissolve lye in water. 2 T of 20 Mule Team Borax and 1/2 cup of ammonia.
Mix with 7 1/2 teacups of just warm grease. Heat and stir until thick.

Grandma Jones made her own soap and washed clothes in the back yard on a wash board. The wash water was heated by a wood fire.
