1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup peanut butter
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
3 cups flour

Preheat oven 375 Grease cookie sheets

Cream together shortening, butter and peanut butter. In a separate bowl bet eggs, then add to the peanut butter mixture, blend well. Add to the mixture baking powder, baking soda, salt and vanilla, blend together. Add sugars, mix well. Gradually add flour. The mixture will become difficult to stir but blend together as well as you can. Knead mixture with hands.

Roll dough in a ball, walnut size, flatten with hand slightly. place on cookie sheet 2 to 3 inches apart. Using a fork slightly flatten, first one way and then the other way, making a criss-cross design on top.

Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately remove cookies to cool.
