1 cup margarine or butter
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
1 tbsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
4 cups flour
1/8 tsp. salt
1/2 cup pecans, chopped (if desired)

In a large mixing bowl cream together margarine, sugar, eggs, buttermilk and vanilla.

Combine all dry ingredients, sift two times. Mix dry ingredients, small amount at one time to the creamed mixture. Continue until dough is stiff enough to handle.

Roll out on floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with a cookie cutter and place on greased cookie sheet. (I use a small juice glass to cut). Brush off flour from top of tea cake before baking.

Bake 400 10 to 15 minutes
