1 cup butter or margarine
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup water
3 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp cinnamon
2 cups chopped dates
1/2 cup chopped nuts
3/4 cup sugar

Filling: cook together until thickened, stirring constantly, the dates, sugar, and 3/4 cup water. Add the nuts and cool.
Cream the butter and brown sugar together. Add the water, eggs and vanilla and mix well. Add the flour, soda, salt cinnamon and mix until dough forms. Drop by teaspoon onto an ungreased cookie sheet, add filling to center of dough, then cover the filling with more dough. Bake at 375 for 10-15 minutes until lightly browned.
