1 c Oatmeal, Quick Cooking
1 1/4 c Boiling Water
1/2 c Shortening
1 c White Sugar
1 c Brown Sugar
1 t Vanilla
2 Eggs
1 1/3 c Flour, Sifted
1 t Cinnamon
1 t Nutmeg
1/2 t Salt
1 t Soda

Broiled Topping:
1/3 c Butter
2/3 c Brown Sugar
1 c Coconut, Flake
1/2 c Nuts, Chopped
1/2 c Wheat Flakes
1/4 c Evaporated Milk, Or Cream
1 t Vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Gradually stir oatmeal into boiling water, let stand 20 minutes. cream shortening. Gradually add white and brown sugar. Add vanilla and eggs. Sift together dry ingredients and add alternately with oatmeal, beating well after each addition. Bake in greased 9 x 13 pan at 350 for 35 minutes or until done.

For broiled topping, combine ingredients thoroughly. Spread on hot cake
and place under broiler until slightly brown.
