2 c Sugar
2 c Raisins
2 c Water
2 T Shortening
3 1/2 c Flour
1 t Soda
1/2 t Baking Powder
Pinch Salt
1 t Cloves
1 t Allspice
1 t Cinnamon
Nuts, Optional

Combine in saucepan: sugar, raisins, water & shortening. Boil 5 minutes. Cool. Combine remaining ingredients in a large bowl. Bake in a moderate over 350 until done. (Test with toothpick.)
