1 c Dates, chopped
1 c Water, boiling
1/2 c Butter
1 c Sugar
1 t Vanilla
1 Egg
1 2/3 c Flour, sifted
1 t Baking Soda
1/4 t Salt
1/2 c Nuts, chopped

Frosting:
1 c Dates
1 c Water, boiling
1/2 c Butter
1 c Sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Combine dates, boiling water, butter, sugar and vanilla in medium size saucepan - heat to boiling. Cook, stirring constantly, 10 minutes or until mixture is slightly thickened. Remove from heat; cool. Beat egg in small bowl; stir into cooled date mixture until blended. Sift flour, baking soda, and salt into date mixture, a little at a time, blending well. Stir in nuts. Pour into greased 8 x 8 x 2 inch pan. Bake 350 oven for 1 hour. Remove from oven and frost with date frosting.
Top with whipped cream just before serving.

Frosting:
Chop 1 cup dates, combine with 1 cup boiling water, cup butter and 1 cup sugar in medium size heavy saucepan. Cook stirring constantly,
about 20 minutes or until thick. Remove from heat and stir in cup chopped nuts. Cool to lukewarm.
