1 c Brown Sugar, packed
3/4 c Shortening
1/4 c Molasses
1 Egg
2 1/4 c White Flour
2 t Baking Soda
1 t Cinnamon, ground
1 t Ginger, ground
1/2 t Cloves, ground
1/4 t Salt
Granulated Sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix brown sugar, shortening, molasses and egg. Mix in flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves & salt. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour.

Heat oven to 375. Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls. Dip tops in sugar. Place balls sugared sides up on lightly greased cookie
sheet - approximately 3 inches apart. Bake until just set, approximately 10-12 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheet.

I roll the balls in sugar then mash down with a glass dipped in the sugar bowl.
