Ingredients: 1 loaf dense French bread cubed and dried (12 oz size) 1 1/4 c granulated sugar 1/2 c packed lt. brown sugar 2 C milk 2 C half and half 1/2 C unsalted butter 6 Eggs, lightly beaten 1/2 t cinnamon 1 Tbsp Vanilla Pinch nutmeg 1/4 C bourbon 1/2 C raisins 1 sm. apple, cored and diced

Directions:Preheat oven 375º. Butter 9" sq. dish. Combine sugars in large bowl. In sauce pan, combine milk, half and half, and one half of the sugar mix. Bring to a boil over medium heat & stir often. Add it to the bowl with remaining sugar, add eggs and whisk until mixed. Whisk in the spices, bourbon, and vanilla.
When the milk has come to a boil, remove from heat and slowly add to the egg mix, mixing constantly. Add raisin and apple. Now add the bread cubes and let mixture stand until the bread is all soaked. (Liquid will remain). Pour into baking dish and bake for 45 min. Top should be brown, and the center 'set'. Serve warm with ice cream or favorite sauces. |
