1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs (beaten)
1 1/2 c. flour with 3/4 tsp. baking soda
Dash of salt

1 c. dates
1 1/4 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda

1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. chopped nuts
6 oz (1/2 pkg.) chocolate chips

Mix shortening, sugar, eggs flour, baking soda & salt. In a separate bowl, pour 1 1/4 cup of boiling water with 1 tsp. baking soda over dates. Add mixtures together. Pour into 9 x13 pan.

Sprinkle 1/2 c. sugar, 1/2 c. nuts, 1/2 pkg chocolate chips over top. Bake @ 350 for 45 minutes.
