1/2 c. butter 1/2 c. shortening 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar 1 egg yolk unbeaten 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 tsp. salt 2 c. sifted flour 1 6 oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips 1/2 to 1 c. chopped nuts
Cream together butter, shortening, brown sugar and unbeaten egg yolk. Stir in vanilla, salt and flour. Press firmly into lightly greased jelly roll pan. Bake about 20 minutes at 325 degrees. Melt chocolate pieces in a double boiler. Spread over the top of hot bars. Sprinkle with nuts and cut in to 2 inch squares while still warm. Place pan on rack and cool.
