1 Cup Butter or Shortening
2 Cups Sugar
4 Eggs
3 1/4 Cups Regular Flour
1 tsp. soda
1 Cup Buttermilk
1 Pound of Candy Orange Slices
1/2 Pound of pitted and diced dates
1/2 Pound of flaked Coconut
2 Cups chopped Nuts
1 tsp. grated orange peel

1 cup Orange Juice
1/2 Cup Sugar

Preheat oven to 275
Grease a large tube pan
Cream well, butter, sugar and eggs. Sift flour before measuring. Dredge nuts and dates in flour. Set aside. Add flour and buttermilk together into creamed mixture. Fold in candy, coconut, dates, nuts and orange peel. Pour into pan. Bake 2 hours. Near the end of baking time prepare glaze and pour over cake as soon as it is taken out of the oven. Cool in pan.

This is a great holiday cake. It makes a large cake and keeps well. I store it covered in the refrigerator.
