Ingredients:
2 Cup Flour
1 Cup Sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
Juice and rind (grated) of 1 orange
2 Tbsp. shortening
Enough boiling water to make a total of 3/4 cup liquid
1 Egg
1 Cup nuts, chopped
1 Cup raw cranberries

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F
Grease 8x4" loaf pan
Sift together Flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt. Combine juice, rind, shortening, then add 1 egg well beaten. Blend liquid into flour mixture until flour mixture is dampened. Add chopped nuts and cranberries. Pour into pan and bake 60-70 minutes. This is the original recipe, but I used cranberries I had cooked and frozen. I think they make the bread better. I cooked the whole cranberries with sugar and a little water until the berries were soft and then froze them for future use. I like to use 1 cup of these thawed rather than the raw berries.
