2 cups sugar
1 cup butter, melted
4 Tbs anise seed
4 Tbs anise flavored liquor
3 Tbs bourbon, or 2 tsp vanilla and 2 Tbs water
2 cups coarsely chopped almonds or walnuts
6 eggs
5 cups flour
1 Tbs baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dough, Chill. On a lightly floured board, shape into loaves inch thick and 2 inches wide. Bake two on a cookie sheet, well apart. 375 for 20 minutes

Remove from oven, let cool until you can touch them. Cut in diagonal slices to inch thick. Lay cookies on cut sides close together and return to oven. 375 for 15 minutes more or until lightly toasted. Cool. Store in air tight containers.
