2 cups cake flour
2 teaspoons baking powder

teaspoon allspice
cup shortening
1 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
cup home cooked or canned pumpkin
cup buttermilk or sour milk

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour; add baking powder, soda and spices: sift again. Cream shortening, add sugar gradually, cream together until light and fluffy. Add unbeaten eggs one at a time beating thoroughly after each addition add vanilla and pumpkin and beat until smooth. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk or sour milk stirring only enough after each addition to blend thoroughly. Pour into 2 greased 8 inch layer pans 1 inches deep. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. When cool put layers together with filling or frosting. Try whipped cream, cream cheese frosting, mocha butter or orange frosting.
