2 cups sugar, 1 cup packed brown sugar (I use half of each type), 1 cup heavy cream, 1 cup milk, 1 cup light corn syrup, 1 cup butter, 4 tsp. vanilla.

Directions:
Directions:
Combine all ingredients but vanilla and cook to 248 (using a candy thermometer) watching very carefully. Take off heat and add vanilla. Pour into well-buttered pan, 8x8x2 inches. Chill in refrigerator until set. Cut in 3/4 inch squares at room temperature. If desired, remove from pan for cutting on board. Wrap in wax paper or Saran wrap. Keep indefinitely refrigerated.

When there's lots of time, we've wrapped these in plastic wrap and tied with red and green ribbons for Christmas. Elly McGraw Chybowski made the best caramels ever!
