1 c almonds, lightly roasted and chopped
1 c BUTTER
1 c sugar
1 c light brown sugar, firmly packed
2 T cold water
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 c semisweet chocolate bits or melted dipping chocolate

Directions:

Sprinkle 1/2 c almonds evenly on bottom of lightly buttered 9x9x2" pan. Melt butter in pan over low heat. Add sugar and water. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly with wooden spoon, until sugar is dissolved and mixture comes to a boil. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly. To prevent separation of butter and sugar, keep mixture boiling until soft crack stage (238). Remove from heat; quickly stir in the soda and blend thoroughly. Turn at once into prepared almond lined pan. Let cool for 5 minutes then quickly sprinkle chocolate bits over candy. With a spatula, spread melting chocolate evenly over the toffee. Sprinkle the remaining almonds over the chocolate and press down lightly with the spatula. With a knife make deep indents to mark 1" squares. When cool, turn out onto smooth surface and break pieces apart.
