2 tbsp lard (slightly rounded)
1 c sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 c mashed potatoes
1 c sour milk or sweet milk with

tsp lemon juice added
1 tsp baking soda
3 tsp baking powder
2 dashes nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla
3 or 3 1/2 c flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream lard & sugar & salt. Add eggs, sour milk & baking soda. Mix well. Then add mashed potatoes, nutmeg & vanilla. Stir in half of flour with baking powder & beat by hand till well blended. Then add remaining flour until quite thick so it can be dropped by rounded teaspoonfuls. Let dough stand 15-20 minutes before frying in hot deep fat, 350. Keep turning until browned & done, about 3 or 4 minutes.
