3 medium firm green tomatoes
1/2 tsp salt

1/2 C all-purpose flour
1/4 C milk
2 eggs slightly beaten
2/3 C fine bread crumbs or cornmeal
1/4 C cooking oil

Directions:
Directions:
Cut unpeeled tomatoes into 1/4 to 1/2 inch slices; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Let stand for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, place flour, milk, eggs, and bread crumbs in separate shallow dishes.
Dip tomato slices in milk, then flour, then eggs, then bead crumbs.Fry the coated slices, half at a time, in hot oil over medium heat for 4 to 6 minutes on each side or until brown. If they brown too quickly reduce heat. I prefer cornmeal because it gives them a nice crust.

This is DEFINITELY a Southern thing, but a lot of us from the West Coast remember our Mom's or Grandmother's Green Tomato Pickles.
