1 1/2 cups cornmeal
1/2 cup flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 medium size onion, chopped
1 cup buttermilk
1 egg
oil

Directions:
Directions:
Combine first 7 ingredients in a bowl; make well in center of mixture.

Whisk together buttermilk and egg; add to dry ingredients, stirring just until moisted.

Pour oil to depth of three inches - heat to 350

Drop batter by rounded teaspoonfuls into hot oil. Fry, in batches, 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden. Drain on paper towels; serve immediately.
