1/2 c. soft shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg, separated
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. chopped pecans
colored vanilla icing

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350

Mix shortening, brown sugar, egg yolk, vanilla, flour,and salt.

Beat egg white until very frothy. Set aside.

Form dough into small balls. Dip in the egg white and then roll in the pecans. Place 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet. Press down center of each ball with thumb to make an indentation so the cookie looks like a little bowl.

Bake 10-12 minutes. Fill with colored frosting when cool.
