1 1/3 cups sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1 egg
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350.

In large bowl, beat 1 cup of sugar, shortening, and butter. Beat in vanilla, almond extract and egg until blended. Beat in flour, baking soda and cream of tartar.

Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Roll balls in remaining 1/3 cup sugar; place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. With bottom of glass dipped in sugar, flatten balls to 1/8 inch thickness.

Bake 7-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
