3/4 cup shortening
1 1/4 cups sugar, divided
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoons nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
In large mixing bowl, cream shortening and 1 cup sugar. Beat in egg, molasses, milk and vanilla. Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Roll into 1 1/4 inch balls; roll in remaining sugar. Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets.

Bake at 350 for 10-14 minutes or until tops crack.
