1 3/4 c all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/4 c packed light brown sugar
1/2 c granulated sugar
1/2 c butter, softened
1/2 c unsweetened applesauce
2 egg whites
1 tbsp vanilla extract
2 1/2 c quick cooking or old fashioned rolled oats
1/2 c mini semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven 375. In small bowl, combine flour, soda, and salt. In large bowl, beat the sugars with butter and applesauce until smooth: Beat in the egg whites and vanilla. Gradually beat in flour mixture until smooth. With a spoon, stir in the oats and chocolate chips. Drop by rounded tsp 2 to 3 inches apart on cookie sheets. Bake 9 - 11 min., or until golden. Cool on pans for 2 minutes, then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
