6 lbs. chuck beef--cubed, 1/2 lb. bacon, 1 lg. pkg. frozen onions (put in 1 hr. before serving), 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 1 lb. mushrooms, 2 cloves minced garlic, 3 c. burgundy wine, 1 c. beef bouillon, 3 T. tomato paste, salt and pepper to season meat, 2 bay leaves, 1/2 tsp. nutmeg, cornstarch to thicken.

Fry bacon pieces. Take out bacon, brown beef cubes in bacon fat. Salt and pepper beef. Take out. Fry mushrooms in butter. Combine everything except frozen onions. Mix. Put in large covered pan. Cook at 325 oven for 3-4 hours. Do not thicken yet. Refrigerate. On day of serving, take out, add onions. When hot, thicken.
