3 c sifted al purpose flour
1 c granulated sugar
4 t baking powder
1 1/2 T salt
1 1/2 c coarsely chopped toasted Walnuts, divided
1 egg beaten1/4 c soft shortening
1 1/2 c milk
1 t vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Resift flour with sugar, baking powder and salt into mixing bowl. Stir in 1 1/4 c of the walnuts. Add egg, shortening, milk and vanilla. Mix just until ingredients are blended. Turn into greased and floured loaf pan 9x5x3 inches. Sprinkle remaining 1/4 c walnuts over top. Bake at 350 for 60 to 70 minutes. Let loaf stand in pan 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire rack to cool. Makes 1 large loaf.
