From Milly: This, like the yellow cake recipe, was made numerous, numerous times by mom & her six daughters when we were growing up.
Mom's birthday cakes were always special & I have vivid memories of cakes Mom made when I was about 5 or 6 years old. Margaret & Bobby's birthdays were around Easter & Mom would make this chocolate cake, frost it with "sticky" frosting, sprinkle it with coconut dyed green & add jelly beans on top. I thought it was a spectacular sight!
And so delicious! A great memory.
