This was the yellow cake recipe Mom & the McGraw sisters made many, many times when we were growing up!
To this day, we all probably have the recipe memorized! We had one basic yellow cake recipe & one chocolate cake recipe. We had dessert with our meal each night & normally at lunch time so both recipes were used extremely often. We could whip up a cake in no time!
Normally we made a chocolate frosting to go on this cake but we also made a "white" frosting made with powdered sugar. For special occasions we made a "sticky" frosting which was actually a broiled frosting & also called a 7 minute frosting. Mom normally made this frosting for birthday cakes, which were always made in 2 or 3 round cake pans.
In the summer, we often had fresh strawberries on this cake. Great memories!
