1/4 lb. Butter or Margarine 1/2 lb. Dates or Morsels chopped
(butter's better) 3 C. Rice Krispies
1 C. Sugar 1/4-1/2 C. Powdered Sugar
1 T. Vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Melt butter, add sugar, dates and bring to a slow boil. Simmer until no grainy, sugary feel left in base mixture. Soft toffee-like consistency is what you're looking for. Remove from heat,stir in vanilla. Let cool slightly and stir in Rice Krispies. Shape into small, compact balls with your hands. (Best to work with while still very warm.) Roll each one in confectioner's sugar.
HINT: It's easier to roll all of them into balls first, then roll them in the sugar when you're finished.

I've loved these since I was a little girl. It was always a holiday favorite. There is a variation where you roll them in coconut but since I've never liked coconut I didn't include it.
