3/4 cup plus 1 large spoonful of shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup molasses
2 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice

Directions:
Directions:
Creme together shortening and sugar. Add egg and molasses. Blend thoroughly. Mix together dry ingredients. Add gradually to shortening mixture. Form into large walnut size balls. Roll in sugar. Place on a greased (not oiled) cookie sheet. Six balls to a cookie sheet only. Bake at 350 degrees for 11 minutes. Allow to cool. Sprinkle with sugar. For most dramatic effect, use coarse ground sugar.
