2 eggs
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
2 cups pastry flour
1 1/2 tsp.soda
1/2 tsp.baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together eggs, shortening, and sugar.
Add pastry flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
Divide into 3 parts and chill. Date filling .......Cook 2 c. dates with 1 c. water until soft and add 2 tbsp. brown sugar. If too thick add a little more water.
Then continue and roll out dough on floured surface in retacgle shape.
Spread with date filling. Roll up and refrigerate. I wrap them in wax paper and often put in the freezer and use them when needed. Slice and place on greased cookie sheet or use a stone cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees C. for 10 minutes.Cool for 2 minutes and remove from tray.

I have perfected this recipe from Don's mom and this is a tradition at any special holidays. Some like to let them sit for a couple of days if they last that long. Yvonne
