FILLING:
2 C. Raisins, ground 1 C. Water
1 C. Sugar 1 T. Flour, heaping

DOUGH:
2 C. Sugar 1/2 C. Butter or butter flavored Crisco
1 C. Milk 1/2 C. Shortening
2 Eggs 1 tsp. Baking Soda
2 tsp. Cream of Tartar enough Flour to make a soft dough.

Cream together sugar, butter, and shortening. Beat in eggs. Sift together 2 C. flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and add to creamed mixture alternately with the milk. Add more flour a little at a time to make a soft dough. Chill in refrigerator for at least an hour. While dough is chilling make filling.

Cook the raisins, sugar, water, and flour until thick. Cool. Roll dough to between 1/8" and 1/4" thick. Cut in circles, hearts, squares, or other basic shapes. Place 1 spoonful of filling in the center of a shape. Top with another matching shape. Bake at 350 8-10 min. or until done. Cookies will be very light in color.

My mother, Doris-Lee (Tomlinson) Horstman, liked to make these at Christmas. They are very good with milk.
