1/2 c Crisco
1 1/4 c Sugar
2 Eggs
2 Tbsp Cocoa
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Vanilla
1 C Buttermilk
2 1/2 c sifted All Purpose Flour
1 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp vinegar
2 oz Red Food Coloring

Icing:
5 Tbsp Flour
1 c Milk
1 C Soft Butter
1 C Sugar
1 tsp Vanilla
1/2 tsp Almond Extract

Directions:
Directions:
Cream Crisco, sugar & eggs. Make paste of cocoa & food coloring and add to sugar mixture. Mix salt, vanilla with milk and add alternately with flour. Mix well. Mix soda and vinegar and fold into mixutre, do not use beater. Bake in 2 9" pans, greased and floured for 30 minutes at 350.

Icing:

Cook flour and milk until it forms a stiff paste. Cool completly, covering with towel to prevent film from forming on top. Cream butter, sugar & vanilla, add to cooled flour mixture and mix until it looks like whip cream. Frost cake.
You may set the iced cake in freezer for a few minutes to set icing.
