Mix & soak for 1 hour: 2 cups bran buds & 1 cup boiling water. Cream: 1 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup shortening. Add 2 eggs. Then add 2 1/2 cup flour and 1/2 tsp ssalt, 2 1/2 tsp soda and 2 cups buttermilk. Add 1 cup 100% bran and the soaked bran buds.

Bake at 400 for 25 minutes. Batter may be stored in refrigerator for 5-6 weeks.
