2 Cups Butter-flavor Shortening
2 2/3 cup sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
5-6 cup flour
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp soda
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, add sugar gradually and beat until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla and beat until blended. Add sifted dry ingredients and mix well. The dough is stiff. Roll 1/2 or 1 inch balls. Rollin granulated sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and flatten with fork (make criss-cross design). Bake at 375 for 10-12 minutes.

When the children were young, they liked to roll the cookies in the sugar and I always let them do the criss-cross.
