1 Cup Shortening
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
2 cups applesauce
2 tsp soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp salt
5 cups flour
1 pkg chocolate chips
(optional 1-1/2 cups walnuts)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix applesauce and soda in a bowl. Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs. sift flour with spices then alternate adding applesauce and flour mixture. Add chocolate chips and nuts if desired.
