Directions:
Pour boiling water over shortening, sugar and salt. Add mlk and let stand until cool. Dissolve yeast in warm water and add to cooled milk mixture with beaten egg. Stir in 2 cups of the flour and then beat. Add enough flour to make a soft dough. Place in a greased bowl; grease top of dough, cover with waxed paper and a cloth and chill several hours. Roll dough into 1/2 inch thickness. Do not let dough rise before frying. Cut into 2" squares and fry, a few at a time, in deep hot fat (360 degrees). Brown on one side and turn and brown on the other. Drain on paper towels and then sprinkle with confectioner's sugar or shake, two or three at a time, in a paper bag with confectioner's sugar. Shake off excess and serve at once. Makes about 3-1/2 doz.
