1 lb. dry pinto beans (2 1/2 cups)
6 cups water
1/4 cup lard or bacon drippings
1 clove garlic, crushed
1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
In a 3 quart covered saucepan bring beans and water to boiling. Simmer for 2 1/2 - 3 hours or until beans are very tender. In a large heavy skillet melt lard, add beans with liquid, salt and garlic. Mash beans completely. Cook uncovered over medium heat, about 10 minutes or till thick, stirring often. Serve as a side dish or use as a filling for burritos. Makes about 4 1/2 cups.
