1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 1/4 c. molasses (sorghum)
4 1/2 c. flour
1 c. boiling water
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves

Directions:
Directions:
Combine shortening, sugar, egg, and molasses. Mix well, add sifted dry ingredients and boiling water. Stir until smooth. Drop by tsp. onto a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 375 for 8 -10 minutes. Frost with vanilla icing.
